NEW SAR Training for ALL Homeland Security Partners

The National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) Office has developed an unclassified training on Suspicious Activity Reporting available on the DHS webpage.  

The new, one-hour long SAR Fundamentals and Processes Training provides an interactive overview of the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative (NSI). It also provides users an understanding of the evaluation process used to determine whether identified behavior adheres to the Information Sharing Environment (ISE)-SAR Functional Standard criteria, in accordance with privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties protections.

This training has been designed as a more interactive and comprehensive version for NSI stakeholders: Federal, State, Local, Tribal, Territorial, and Private Sector homeland security partners.

For the second year in a row, the Carolinas Crime Analysis Association will be hosting its annual training conference at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, NC from August 10-11, 2022. We are pleased to announce the availability of a three-day PLX Basics: Phone and Social Media Analysis class, in Raleigh, NC hosted by the Raleigh Police Department and taught by PenLink. This class will be held Tuesday through Thursday, August 16-18, 2022.

Level 1 Beginner Cell Site Analysis provides hands-on-training for personnel involved in criminal investigations, criminal prosecution and crime analysis. It teaches how to apply cell site analysis concepts and GeoTime Desktop workflows to investigations. This class will cover cell site analysis workflows, including CDR formatting, mapping of CDRs and reporting. This is a Bring-Your-Own-Laptop class. Software will be provided ahead of time and must be installed before the class.

Advanced Financial Analysis Seminar

Advanced Financial Analysis Seminar (AFAS) picks up where the financial portion of IALEIA’s
FIAT course ends, providing both new materials and expanded exercises in which to engage. To
take the AFAS, you need to have taken the FIAT or a similar basic analytic course.
Developed by Marilyn B. Peterson, CICA and CFE, the course has received high marks in its first
five iterations. Participant rated it as 100% ‘would recommend to a colleague’. Instructor
knowledge and instructor feedback were also given nearly perfect grades.
It is 20 hours over five days, with 2 hours each day of instructor-led online activity (10:00 a.m.
to 12:00 noon EST) and 2 hours of each day of practical exercises to be completed prior to the
next class. The remaining 2022 classes are August 22 – 26 and November 14 – 18. Classes will
continue each quarter in 2023 and on.
Topics included in the seminar are:
     Introduction
 Money Laundering
     Business Record Analysis
     Personal Bank Record Analysis
     Bank Secrecy Record Analysis
     Financial Profiles
     Non-bank Financial Records Analysis
     E-currency and Alternate Payment Records Analysis
 Trade-based Money Laundering
     Final exercise
 All materials are provided electronically. The instructor is available by phone or text each day
from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (EST) and will provide feedback on all submitted exercises.
 
The cost of the AFAS is $300 for IALEIA members and $500 for non-members. FIAT instructors
and developers can use one point to cover the registration fee.
