After a woman was found brutally murdered in her home, the police turned to her ex-boyfriend as a prime suspect in the investigation. The ex-boyfriend presented a strong alibi to investigators that he was with his current girlfriend on the other side of town at the time of the crime.

Upon further investigation, police discovered that the ex-boyfriend lied about his whereabouts during the night in question. They began to put together evidence of his involvement and turned to the data to find out exactly what happened. The data that the investigators had included:

• Call records from both suspects
• A GPS tracker the suspect allegedly planted in the victim’s car. The tracker had a SIM card, which provides CDR data, GPS pings, and battery levels.

What investigators needed was a way to look at all the data in a single timeline to understand what happened the night of the murder.

GeoTime is joined by Stefan Mayer, Crime Analyst from the Austrian Federal Police, as he walks through this case study and demonstrates how he combined all the case data — battery status, GPS, and CDR data into GeoTime, and what was discovered.

Stefan will discuss the different GeoTime tools used to help solve the case, including:

• Data layering for call records, GPS and battery status
• Callout annotations in calendar view
• PowerPoint reporting for court
